Will Allen of Growing Power
Aquaponics & Composting Workshop
As you know, there are a myriad of promising urban agriculture initiatives currently underway in Cleveland. One of these initiatives involves Will Allen, the CEO and Founder of Growing Power, Inc.
Mr. Allen is world-renown for his urban agriculture practices and techniques, and was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2010.
Mr. Allen is also a MacArthur Genius Grant award winner, and serves on First Lady Michelle Obama's national "Let's Move" campaign focused on childhood obesity. These are but a few of his many accomplishments.
Over the past year, Mr. Allen has joined forces with a local group called the
Rid-All Green Partnership (RGP) and designated them as one of his 16 Regional Outreach Training Centers. This designation requires the RGP group to agree to train local and regional residents in urban agriculture best practices as taught by the Growing Power organization.
The group's work will also involve exploring and addressing fresh food access and/or distribution in inner city communities. Members of the Rid-All Green Partnership include Environmental Health Watch, The Sisters of Charity Foundation, PolicyBridge, Neighborhood Leadership Institute and the Rid-All Exterminating Corporation.
